Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Greg Whales! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wayne Kaufman! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whales throws a series of punches but Kaufman moves out of range. Kaufman looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Whales ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Kaufman has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Whales finds it's way round the side to connect with Kaufman's head. Whales lands a two punch combo.
It looks like Wayne Kaufman has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Kaufman takes one on the button. Whales dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Whales ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Kaufman blocks a head kick by Whales.
Kaufman drops his hands momentarily and Whales takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Whales displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. No joy there for Whales, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Whales dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Whales lands with a shot to the body. Kaufman on the wrong end of a nice hook. Kaufman avoids a punch combination nicely.
Whales darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Kaufman is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Kaufman takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Whales throws a good cross that connects.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whales lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Whales. Whales dips to his left and cracks Kaufman with an uppercut! Whales moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Nice takedown defense from Whales. No joy for Kaufman on that attempt. Kaufman looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Kaufman takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Whales tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kaufman was well out of range. Poor timing from Whales. Whales throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Kaufman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kaufman lands in his opponent's guard. Kaufman controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Kaufman slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Whales. Kaufman is controlling the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whales is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Whales flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Whales won't allow Kaufman to pass to mount. Kaufman looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kaufman trying to pass the guard but Whales defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kaufman controlling the pace. Whales flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Whales works Kaufman's body with a nice hook. Greg Whales seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Whales stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Kaufman takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Whales connects with a good right hand that stumbles Kaufman. Kaufman circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Whales scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Whales fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kaufman manages to avoid it. Whales is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Kaufman takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Kaufman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Kaufman decides to stand up, so the ref orders Whales to his feet. Whales is looking to wear down Kaufman with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Kaufman instigates a clinch. Whales fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Whales is looking to break free of the clinch but Kaufman has double underhooks. Whales lands with a right to the head. Kaufman successfully pulls guard.
Whales working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Whales throws a strike but Kaufman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Whales wants to sweep here but Kaufman controlling him for the moment. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Whales wants to stand and escape but Kaufman is having none of it. Whales trying to strike off his back.

Kaufman moves forwards but Whales connects with a nice, crisp jab. Whales throws a wild body kick that Kaufman sees coming a mile off. Whales closes the distance and lands a one-two. Whales connects with a good right hand that stumbles Kaufman. Kaufman circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Whales moves out of range of the strikes. Whales throws a low kick but it's checked well by Kaufman. Whales throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Nice uppercut lands for Whales. That snapped Kaufman's head back.

Whales throws a lazy right hand but Kaufman sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Whales dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Whales misses the jab. Whales lands a nice hook to Kaufman's body. Kaufman takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Kaufman uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Whales.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Whales misses with a kick to the body.
Kaufman takes the fight into the clinch. Kaufman is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Whales gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Whales changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kaufman fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Kaufman shoots in looking for a takedown. Whales tries to sprawl out of it but Kaufman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Whales manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Whales lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Kaufman drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Kaufman trying to control the position from guard on top but Whales is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kaufman stops Whales from standing up. Whales throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Kaufman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Kaufman slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Whales. Whales is trying to escape back to his feet but Kaufman uses the scramble to pass into side control.

That was a close second round but I would say that Greg Whales will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Wayne Kaufman's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Kaufman staggers backwards, shaken. Whales cracks Kaufman with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Kaufman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kaufman lands in his opponent's guard. Kaufman sitting in guard, not really doing much. Whales throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Kaufman controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kaufman wants to stand but Whales is controlling his posture from full guard. Kaufman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Whales striking off his back but it's not causing Kaufman any problems. Kaufman wants to control from the top but Whales keeps moving.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Whales throws a sloppy head kick and Kaufman moves out of range easily. Whales scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Greg Whales is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Kaufman takes a shot right to the bread basket. Kaufman misses with a head kick.
Kaufman closes the distance and pushes Whales back into the cage. Kaufman misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Whales.

That sent Kaufman stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Whales closes the distance and lands a one-two. Whales throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Kaufman takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Whales misses with a head kick.
Whales lands a with a good body shot. Whales goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Kaufman fails with a takedown attempt. Kaufman moves out of range as Whales throws a body kick.
Greg Whales is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Whales is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Whales connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Wayne Kaufman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kaufman takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
And that's the end of the fight! Greg Whales showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Whales, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
