Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sam Williams! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kan Harvey! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Eddie Farnsworth and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Williams getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Harvey fails with a takedown attempt. Williams fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Harvey changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Williams tries to avoid it but Harvey manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Williams to the ground. Williams escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Harvey doesn't manage to clinch there - Williams circles away.
Harvey uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Williams.
Harvey misses with a wild combination.
Williams keeps the fight on the outside. Williams slaps away a takedown attempt from Harvey, before circling back to the center of the mat. Sam Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kan Harvey. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The crowd cheers as Williams lands an impressive looking overhand right. Harvey doesn't seem phased though. Nice takedown defense from Williams. No joy for Harvey on that attempt. Williams leaves Harvey with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Williams is looking to counter punch. Sam Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Williams jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harvey shoots for a double leg takedown but Williams sprawls well. He's pushed Harvey's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Harvey gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Williams gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sam Williams! Our winner, Sam Williams, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. The defeated Kan Harvey had this to say: 'That was tough but I will return strong.'.
