Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jacob McWilliam! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rodrik Cassel! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McWilliam instigates a clinch. McWilliam lands a hook that snaps the head of Cassel backwards. Cassel changes levels and goes for a takedown here. McWilliam fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Nice takedown defense from McWilliam. No joy for Cassel on that attempt. McWilliam appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. Cassel drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. McWilliam lands a big uppercut and Cassel crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Cassel looks OK. McWilliam waves Cassel back to his feet!
Cassel is rocked! We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Cassel has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Cassel feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. McWilliam wants to stand up but Cassel is controlling him. Cassel thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. McWilliam wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Cassel manages to pass to side control. Cassel is taking a breather. McWilliam says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cassel wants to pass to mount but McWilliam is defending the position. Cassel is working for a submission of some sort.
McWilliam wants to get back to his feet. Cassel moves nicely into side control. Cassel in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... McWilliam is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
