The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Herman shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Herman closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Herman is trying to drag Dan to the mat but Dan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Dan works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Dan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Herman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dan is looking to pass into half guard but Herman pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Herman is in guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Herman is on top in guard.
Herman lands a couple of digs.
Dan thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Herman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Dan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Herman is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Dan.

Herman stands up and beckons Dan to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Vicente Herman.
