Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jaako Turkinen (ranked 1059 p4p, 121 weight class) and Kantaro Hoshino (ranked 1740 p4p, 188 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jaako Turkinen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
42 - 16 - 3, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kantaro Hoshino! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Turkinen takes a swing at Hoshino's ribcage but misses. It seemed like Hoshino was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Turkinen swings for the body but Hoshino moves out of range.
Turkinen ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Turkinen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hoshino.

Turkinen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Turkinen cracks Hoshino with a big elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Turkinen is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hoshino tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Hoshino is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hoshino is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Turkinen lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hoshino hang on? Turkinen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Turkinen unloads with some shots from mount but Hoshino bucks and avoids them well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Turkinen looking to control but Hoshino is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Turkinen lands a heavy elbow. Turkinen is in the full mount, landing strikes. Hoshino wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Turkinen.

Hoshino's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Turkinen connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Hoshino scrambles back to his feet. Turkinen displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hoshino throws out the jab. Turkinen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hoshino was well out of range. It looked like Turkinen was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Hoshino. Turkinen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hoshino moves away. Turkinen uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hoshino.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hoshino throws a looping overhand right but Turkinen ducks down to avoid it. Turkinen takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Hoshino will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Turkinen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Hoshino takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Turkinen moves out of range of the strikes. Hoshino swings and misses with a shot to the body and Turkinen counters with a lovely straight right hand! Turkinen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Turkinen throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hoshino stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Turkinen jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A jab from Turkinen misses. A little jabbing left from Hoshino on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Turkinen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hoshino was covering up waiting for the punch and Turkinen finishes the takedown easily into guard. Turkinen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Turkinen postures up in Hoshino's guard and throws a big left but Hoshino blocks it.

Turkinen trying to control the position from guard on top but Hoshino is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Turkinen's corner is telling him to maintain position. Turkinen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Turkinen throwing strikes from guard but Hoshino blocks nicely.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Hoshino displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Turkinen throws out the jab. Turkinen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hoshino. Kantaro Hoshino has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Hoshino takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
