The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wharerau closes the distance looking to clinch
and Martinez Jr counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Wharerau shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Martinez Jr's guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Javier Martinez Jr will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Horrible takedown attempt by Wharerau or perhaps it was just good defense by Martinez Jr, which made it look bad.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
