PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gracie Allen (ranked 286 p4p, 39 weight class) and Edward Kenway (ranked 69 p4p, 8 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

With a record of 29 - 22 - 1, fighting out of New York, Gracie Allen!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 11 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edward Kenway!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Eddie Farnsworth and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kenway misses with a body kick.
Kenway stuns Allen with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A lazy left from Allen finds it's target.
Gracie Allen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kenway misses with a hook.
Allen staying out of range there.
Allen scores with a shot to the body.
Kenway's corner calls for a 1-2. Kenway obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Allen misses the target.
Allen misses with a hook.
Kenway fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Allen has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
A nice inside leg kick there by Kenway. That's going to slow Allen down.
Allen throws a hook to the side of Kenway's head but Kenway sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Kenway slips under a jab.
A big right from Allen misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Allen misses with a straight right.
Allen lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Allen tries for a takedown but Kenway circles away easily
and Kenway counters with a straight right hand.


It looks like Gracie Allen has been cut.

Kenway throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kenway has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Allen moves away from the strike by Kenway.
Allen rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Kenway cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Kenway takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Kenway closes the distance and clinches.

Allen manages to break the clinch.
Kenway ducks under a wild hook from Allen.
Kenway cracks Allen with a good jab.
Allen lands an overhand right.
Allen misses with a looping left.
Kenway was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
A decent looking cross lands there for Allen.
The fighters circling - Allen throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Allen throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Allen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Allen throws a lazy uppercut
enabling Kenway to counter with a crisp jab.
Allen takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Allen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kenway sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Allen misses with a lunging right hand
and Kenway connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kenway throws a body shot but no joy.
A big right from Allen misses.
A countering left hand to the body from Kenway misses.
Kenway sizes up Allen with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Nice uppercut lands for Kenway. That snapped Allen's head back.
The crowd cheers as Kenway lands an impressive looking overhand right. Allen doesn't seem phased though.
Allen lands with a straight right. Kenway didn't see that one coming.

Kenway clinches with his opponent.
Allen wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Allen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Allen moves forwards but Kenway connects with a nice, crisp jab.
A head kick misses from Kenway.
Allen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kenway moves away.
Kenway is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Allen had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Kenway moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Kenway fakes the leg kick and cracks Allen in the body.
Kenway throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kenway uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Allen.
A countering left hand to the body from Kenway misses.
Kenway moves out of range of the strikes.
Allen moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Allen takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
A left and a right from Kenway both land. Nice combination.
A big right from Allen misses.
Kenway uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Allen.
A countering left hand to the body from Kenway misses.
Kenway is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Allen is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Kenway tries to clinch up.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Kenway! But no joy.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kenway feints and then cracks Allen's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Allen down.
Kenway fakes the leg kick and cracks Allen in the body.
Allen takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Kenway bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Kenway misses with an attempted mid kick.
Allen misses with a right hand
and Kenway counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Edward Kenway seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Allen needs to keep his hands up - Kenway had a free shot at his head there.
Oh Allen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Allen looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Kenway moves away from the strike by Allen.
Allen seems to have got his legs back now.

Allen throws a jab but it's blocked by Kenway.

Allen throws a shot from downtown. Kenway moves away and avoids it.
Allen misses with a lunging right hand
enabling Kenway to counter with a crisp jab.
Allen looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Kenway misses with a wild body shot.
Kenway lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Allen jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Allen misses with a right hand
and Kenway counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kenway pushes Allen away with a front kick.
Allen misses with a looping left.

Kenway dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Allen. That did some damage!

Kenway swings wildly with an uppercut but Allen uses good head movement to avoid it.

Kenway has a couple of punches blocked by Allen.
Allen is trying to push Kenway away but Kenway has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Allen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Allen walks forward, straight into a front kick from Kenway.
Allen lands the left hand.
Allen jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Allen misses with a left hand
and Kenway counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Allen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Allen throws a body shot but no joy.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kenway moves into range and connects with a jab.
Kenway lands an overhand right.
Kenway drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Allen right on the button. Allen goes down! Kenway follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Kenway gets the win via TKO!
