Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aapo Kukkanen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Montavious Jordan! The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Topper Green and Darius Henderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jordan doesn't succeed with the takedown and Kukkanen counters with a straight right hand. Jordan closes the distance and clinches. Jordan jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kukkanen walks away with a smile on his face. Jordan gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Jordan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jordan seems to be working for a kimura but Kukkanen defends the submission attempt. Jordan is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jordan is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kukkanen has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Jordan looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Jordan working for a guillotine from mount but Kukkanen is in no mood to give up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kukkanen tries to reverse the position but Jordan maintains control. Kukkanen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jordan on the ground. Jordan gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Jordan throws a left and a right that both miss
and Kukkanen counters with a right hand to the body. Kukkanen throws a good cross that connects.
Jordan tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Kukkanen counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jordan thinking. Jordan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kukkanen's guard. Jordan thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Jordan wants to stand but Kukkanen is controlling his posture from full guard. Kukkanen is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Jordan advances to half guard. Kukkanen has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jordan wants to work for an arm triangle but Kukkanen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Jordan is trying for a kimura here. Kukkanen looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Jordan wins by kimura!
