Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rhys Woods (ranked 6515 p4p, 0 weight class) and Javier Martinez Jr (ranked 8424 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rhys Woods!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Javier Martinez Jr!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woods throws a sloppy head kick and Martinez Jr moves out of range easily.

Martinez Jr shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Martinez Jr showed some decent athleticism there.
Woods wants to control but Martinez Jr is keeping busy.
Martinez Jr is controlling the pace.
Martinez Jr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Woods. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Woods trying to hold on to Martinez Jr's head to control him but Martinez Jr postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Woods is trying to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Woods fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Martinez Jr avoids it really well and circles away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Martinez Jr ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A looping hook to the body misses from Woods. Martinez Jr does a little dance to reset his feet.
Woods shoots in looking for a takedown. Martinez Jr tries to sprawl out of it but Woods keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Martinez Jr manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
As Woods backs off Martinez Jr throws a huge counter combo but Woods manages to avoid it all.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rhys Woods. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Woods fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Martinez Jr manages to avoid it.
Woods slaps away a takedown attempt from Martinez Jr, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Woods is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Martinez Jr.
Martinez Jr shoots for a takedown but Woods saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
No joy there for Martinez Jr, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Martinez Jr changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Woods tries to avoid it but Martinez Jr manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Woods to the ground. Woods escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Martinez Jr throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Woods's waist but Woods gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Martinez Jr off to one side.

Martinez Jr shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Woods as he jumps to the side.
Martinez Jr slips a jab and a cross from Woods.

Martinez Jr's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Martinez Jr fails with an attempt to clinch.
Martinez Jr swats away the attempt to clinch by Woods.
Despite the aggression on Martinez Jr's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Woods.

Woods has had enough of the clinch but Martinez Jr keeps him there for the moment.

Horrible takedown attempt by Martinez Jr or perhaps it was just good defense by Woods, which made it look bad.

Woods swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Martinez Jr is now in Woods's guard. A big mistake from Woods there, giving up the dominant position!
Martinez Jr passes Woods's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Martinez Jr wants to stand up but Woods is controlling the position.

Woods closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Martinez Jr has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Woods's lack of action.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rhys Woods.
