Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Leopoldo Sanchez (ranked 6157 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Todd (ranked 5729 p4p, 556 weight class). The key to victory for Leopoldo Sanchez has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leopoldo Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matthew Todd!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Todd shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sanchez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Sanchez is looking for a sweep.
Todd slows the pace down.
Todd trying to control the action but Sanchez is working from the bottom.

Todd tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Todd has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sanchez is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Todd decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Sanchez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Todd looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Todd manages to work his way to half guard, despite Sanchez's best efforts.
Todd slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Todd has his foot on Sanchez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sanchez works his way back into a safe position though.
Sanchez throws a big elbow that misses.
Sanchez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Todd controls Sanchez momentarily but Sanchez frees himself.
Sanchez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Sanchez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Todd has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sanchez has managed to get both his arms back between Todd's legs - danger averted.

Sanchez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Todd is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Todd has escaped and now he's on top!

Todd stays in close to Sanchez's body and controls the position.

Todd passes Sanchez's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Todd looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Todd wants to take a breather but Sanchez is having none of it.
Sanchez is looking to escape.
Sanchez is staying active underneath Todd, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Todd is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sanchez sees it coming and defends easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Todd is working away from the top position though.
Todd wants to pass to mount but Sanchez is defending the position.
Sanchez tries to kick Todd off but Todd keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Sanchez is refusing to be controlled, as Todd sits in half guard.
Todd not doing much here.

Todd is working for a submission of some sort.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sanchez is trying to stand back up but Todd is controlling him
Todd throws a strike but Sanchez avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Sanchez wants to get back to his feet but Todd is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sanchez trying to keep a closed guard but Todd is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Todd throws a head kick but Sanchez moves out of range.
Sanchez appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Todd shoots in and gets a takedown into Sanchez's guard.
Sanchez controls Todd momentarily but Todd frees himself.
Todd wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew Todd dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Sanchez wants to control but Todd is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sanchez tries to kick Todd off but Todd keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Todd trying to mount his opponent but Sanchez defends it.
Sanchez is not content to let Todd control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez is looking to improve his position.
Todd is taking a breather. Sanchez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Todd is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Todd trying to advance position but Sanchez counters by regaining guard.
Matthew Todd has got the better of the ground game so far.
Todd wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.
Todd trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Todd drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sanchez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sanchez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sanchez!


Sanchez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Sanchez tries to keep at a distance but Todd has taken the fight into the clinch.
Sanchez taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

Todd turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Sanchez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Todd on the ground.
Sanchez takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Todd is working Sanchez over with some ground and pound from side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Sanchez is trying to control Todd's posture but Todd avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Todd lands a decent elbow from side control.
Sanchez tries to buck Todd off but Todd is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Sanchez's face as Todd controls the position.
Todd is looking to take a break and control but Sanchez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Todd happy to just control the position for now.

Todd is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Sanchez looks calm but he's in trouble here. Todd gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Sanchez is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Todd lets go of the hold and Sanchez can pop his arm back in it's socket.
