The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mathis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mathis is looking to land body kicks.
Bass appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Bass takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.


It looks like Calvin Bass has been cut.

Mathis forces Bass back against the cage and clinches.
Mathis has Bass pressed against the cage.
Bass tries to pull guard but Mathis won't allow it.

Mathis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Petiah Mathis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mathis throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Bass's head.

Mathis pushes Bass up against the cage in a clinch.

Bass looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mathis is fending him off so far but Bass persists. Nope, Mathis circles away and we're back to standing.

Mathis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Mathis throws a leg kick but Bass moved away.
Mathis lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Bass slips a jab from Mathis.

Mathis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mathis tries to stand but Bass is controlling from the bottom.
Bass really is a fat lump.
Bass not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Mathis tries to free his leg and advance position but Bass is retaining full guard.
Mathis controls from within his opponent's guard.
Bass controls Mathis momentarily but Mathis frees himself.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bass is pulling down on Mathis's head to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mathis rushes Bass and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Mathis is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Bass can't fight it off and eventually Mathis manages to take the fight to the floor. Bass looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Bass is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mathis is aware though and is defending well.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mathis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bass defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mathis.

Mathis fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bass, pushing him back against the cage.

Mathis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mathis misses with a body kick.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Mathis. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Mathis has taken the fight to the clinch.

Bass jumps guard.

Mathis stuffs the takedown.
Mathis tries to counter with a clinch but Bass shakes him off and moves away.

Mathis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Bass looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Mathis would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mathis's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Mathis wants to get up but he can't break Bass's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bass looking to control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Bass is pulling down on Mathis's head. It's preventing any offense from Mathis, at least for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Bass tries for a takedown but Mathis sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Petiah Mathis seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Bass tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mathis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bass somewhat.

Mathis lands a good knee to the midsection. Bass won't want to take too many of those.

Bass feints and as Mathis raises his hands in defense, Bass changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bass thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Mathis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Petiah Mathis is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Bass fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Petiah Mathis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mathis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
