PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Trinidad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryo Habanapa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryo Habanapa told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tyson Trinidad! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryo Habanapa! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Habanapa darts in and clinches Trinidad up against the cage. Trinidad wants a takedown.
Trinidad drops down looking for an ankle pick but Habanapa pulls his leg out and moves away.
Trinidad shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Habanapa pinned against the cage. Habanapa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyson Trinidad. That's going to take a lot out of him. Trinidad tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Habanapa swivels and escapes. Trinidad showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Habanapa.
Habanapa stuffs the takedown. Habanapa scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Habanapa swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Trinidad fails to land the takedown. Habanapa has taken the fight to the clinch.
Trinidad breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Habanapa fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Trinidad manages to avoid it. Tyson Trinidad seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Trinidad tries to clinch up and Habanapa counters with a two punch combo.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trinidad has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Trinidad with a poor takedown enabling Habanapa to counter with a crisp jab. Trinidad tries to keep at a distance but Habanapa has taken the fight into the clinch. Habanapa lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Trinidad backwards. Habanapa can't break the clinch.
Habanapa wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Trinidad has him pressed against the cage. Habanapa should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Trinidad trying to stall but Habanapa improves his position.
Trinidad has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Habanapa is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Trinidad gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Trinidad trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Trinidad is breathing heavily. Habanapa pulls Trinidad in to control the position. Habanapa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Trinidad. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Trinidad trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Habanapa throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Trinidad trying to control the position from guard on top but Habanapa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Trinidad will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Trinidad stopping the sweep attempt from Habanapa. Trinidad pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Habanapa is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Trinidad thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Habanapa throws a series of punches but Trinidad avoids them all with ease. Habanapa tests Trinidad's chin there with a solid looking shot. Habanapa clinches. Trinidad looking for a takedown. Habanapa breaks from the clinch.
Habanapa stuns Trinidad with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Habanapa swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Habanapa scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Habanapa punishes Trinidad's body with a nice straight punch. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Trinidad shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Habanapa counters with a nice double leg into side control. Trinidad won't be happy with that. Trinidad sneaks back into half guard. Trinidad is trying to maintain the position but Habanapa is very close to passing his half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trinidad gets back to full guard.
Trinidad looking for a triangle here. Habanapa is fighting it but it looks tight! Trinidad pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Habanapa is tapping out - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Tyson Trinidad!
