Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 86 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Anzhor Azhiev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 22 - 1, fighting out of New York, Gaudencio Roman!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roman scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Azhiev doesn't seem bothered though.
Roman dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Roman lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Roman.
Azhiev looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Roman gets a clinch.
Azhiev tries to pull guard but Roman holds him up against the cage and eventually Azhiev drops back down to his feet.
Azhiev takes an elbow to the forehead.
Azhiev is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Roman to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anzhor Azhiev. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Roman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Roman throws a nice looking combination but Azhiev bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Azhiev tries to score a power double leg takedown but Roman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Azhiev somewhat.
Roman feints the counter takedown.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Azhiev drops his hands momentarily and Roman takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Roman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Roman lands in his opponent's guard.

Roman drops back looking for a leg! Azhiev is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Azhiev manages to kick Roman off! Roman jumps back into Azhiev's guard.

Roman avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Roman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Roman pushes down on Azhiev's leg and manages to get into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roman landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Roman takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Azhiev is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Roman scores with a couple of nice shots.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like Roman might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gaudencio Roman dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Roman goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Roman drops Azhiev with a right and a left! Roman comes rushing in but Azhiev regains his composure and manages to keep Roman in guard.

A lull in the action here as Roman stalls from top position.

Let's hope that Roman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Roman lands a couple of good shots and Azhiev has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Roman has got one arm under Azhiev's chin. This could be trouble... Azhiev trying to control the other hand but Roman gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Azhiev has tapped out! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Gaudencio Roman!
An out of breath Gaudencio Roman thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
In defeat, Anzhor Azhiev stepped up to the mic, saying 'I still want that title shot. Im the most experienced fighter here and everyday wants to see me smash the champ so lets do it whenever he starts ducking me.'.
