Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Rangel (ranked 4195 p4p, 541 weight class) and Joshua Syracuse (ranked 5420 p4p, 638 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gabriel Rangel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joshua Syracuse!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Donatello Bradman and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Syracuse slaps away a takedown attempt from Rangel, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rangel shoots in but Syracuse avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Rangel pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Rangel gets a clinch.
Rangel definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Syracuse on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Syracuse trying to land knees to the body.
Rangel keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Syracuse's efforts to push away.
Rangel lands a nice shot to the body.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rangel has Syracuse pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Rangel pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Syracuse tumbling to the mat - Rangel dives into Syracuse's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rangel is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Syracuse is looking to stand up but Rangel isn't so interested in that idea.
Syracuse is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Rangel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Syracuse on the ground.

Rangel is in close to Syracuse's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Rangel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Syracuse is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Syracuse is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Syracuse is looking to take a break and control but Rangel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Syracuse working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Rangel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Syracuse is working away from the top position though.

Syracuse is trying to control. Rangel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Syracuse has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rangel is proving hard to escape from.

Syracuse wants to get up but he can't break Rangel's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rangel is looking to sweep but instead, Syracuse has passed into half guard.
Rangel gets back to full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rangel holds on and takes a little breather.
Rangel looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rangel is pulling down on Syracuse's head. It's preventing any offense from Syracuse, at least for the moment.
Syracuse trying to control but Rangel is working from the bottom.
Syracuse is fighting to break Rangel's control of his arms but Rangel is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gabriel Rangel will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rangel takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Rangel drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Syracuse tries to escape but Rangel is in control.
Rangel creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Syracuse sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Rangel is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Syracuse is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Syracuse manages to work his way to half guard, despite Rangel's best efforts.
Rangel scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Syracuse moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Rangel's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Syracuse has his feet on Rangel's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Rangel's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Syracuse connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Rangel scrambles back to his feet.
Syracuse has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Rangel is landing a low percentage of strikes.

and Syracuse counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Syracuse closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Rangel has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Syracuse is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Rangel throws a leg kick
and Rangel takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rangel uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Syracuse.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rangel takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.


Rangel is rocked!
Syracuse moves into range and connects with a jab.
Oh Rangel is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Joshua Syracuse seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rangel gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Syracuse gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Rangel is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joshua Syracuse!
A less than humble Joshua Syracuse misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
