PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cuba Moretti (ranked 656 p4p, 93 weight class) and Roy Batty (ranked 446 p4p, 72 weight class). Batty comes into a darkened arena with his song building. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cuba Moretti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roy Batty!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Chad Campbell and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batty lands with a hook. Moretti tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Moretti has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Double XX in the buildup to the fight.
Moretti throws an overhand right that lands on Batty's shoulder, as Batty tries to avoid the shot.
Moretti wants to clinch up but Batty keeps it at a distance.
Moretti is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Batty replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Moretti blocks it well.
Batty fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Moretti on the side of the head.

Moretti has taken the fight to the clinch.
Moretti blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Moretti tries to throw a body punch but Batty avoids it by throwing Moretti back against the cage.
Batty misses with a punch to the body.
Moretti lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Batty lands a right hand.
Batty changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Moretti fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Moretti throws a combination that misses
and Moretti takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Batty fails with the takedown.
Batty fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Cuba Moretti has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roy Batty.
Batty misses with a kick to the body
and Moretti counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A jab from Moretti finds it's way through Batty's defenses.

Batty darts in and clinches Moretti up against the cage.

Batty doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Batty blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Moretti throws a head punch that misses.
Moretti tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Moretti misses with a body punch.

Batty has picked Moretti up - he's going for a ride! Batty dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Batty is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Moretti doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Batty.
Moretti is on the bottom, trying to hold on to half guard. He's throwing a few small shots here, to keep his opponent honest.
Batty wants to control but Moretti is keeping him busy.
My spies in Brazilian Elite Team inform me that Batty has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Moretti throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Batty throwing shots but Moretti is blocking nicely.

Moretti is defending against the submission attempts here by Batty.

Batty takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Batty can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Moretti is looking to escape.

Batty unloads with some shots from mount but Moretti bucks and avoids them well.

Batty working for a guillotine from mount but Moretti is in no mood to give up.

Batty with shots to the head and body - Moretti looks very uncomfortable down there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Moretti is trying desperately to improve position.
Moretti on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Moretti tries to get out of the position.

Batty breaks from Moretti's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Batty goes for an armbar but Moretti turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Moretti.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Moretti trying to control the position from guard on top but Batty is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roy Batty dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Batty moves into range and clinches up with Moretti.
Batty tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Moretti's elbow.
Moretti fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Batty lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Batty lands a hook that snaps the head of Moretti backwards.
Batty blocks an uppercut.
Moretti is trying to maintain a safe position but Batty gets an underhook and turns Moretti into the cage.
Moretti has had enough of the clinch but Batty keeps him there for the moment.
Batty lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Moretti or not.
Moretti looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
A short left from Batty.

Moretti turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
You can see the frustration on Batty's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Batty keeping his opponent close.
Moretti tries to score with some ground and pound. Batty controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Batty manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Batty wants to free his trapped foot but Moretti is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Moretti throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Batty manages to pass to side control.
Batty misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Batty is putting a hurting on Moretti here, landing some big shots from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Batty scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Moretti to see if he's OK.
Batty in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Moretti regains half guard.
Batty has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Batty not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Batty takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Batty throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Moretti wants to get back to full guard but Batty has mounted him!
Batty tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Batty throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Moretti has his hands clasped together but Batty breaks the hold and Moretti is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Batty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Roy Batty!
