Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Milton Garza (ranked 24525 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bert Rakonov (ranked 5775 p4p, 0 weight class). Rakonov has chosen Lisa Lougheed - Run with us as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Milton Garza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bert Rakonov !
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rakonov fails with the takedown
and Garza counters with a two punch combo.
Rakonov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Garza sprawls well. Garza wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rakonov gets slowly back to his feet.

Rakonov closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Garza knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rakonov on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Garza is trying to buck Rakonov off.
Garza is looking to regain half guard here but Rakonov keeps moving and retains side control.

Rakonov is trying to get an arm triangle but Garza is defending well.

Rakonov tries for a kimura but Garza is defending well.

Rakonov swings around for an armbar but Garza sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Rakonov 's guard.
Rakonov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Garza has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Rakonov keeping moving, preventing Garza from controlling successfully.
Rakonov pulls Garza in close to prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Garza could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Garza wants to control from the top but Rakonov keeps moving.
Garza is really struggling to control Rakonov but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Rakonov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Rakonov is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Rakonov has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Garza is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rakonov .
Rakonov is trying to control Garza's posture but Garza avoids it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rakonov is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Garza is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Garza closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rakonov circles away.
Rakonov throws out a counter right but Garza avoids it with no problem.

and Garza counters with a series of strikes. Rakonov will be more careful next time no doubt.
Rakonov looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Garza tries to counter with a takedown but Rakonov is quick to defend against it.
Garza shoots for a double leg takedown but Rakonov sprawls well. He's pushed Garza's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rakonov is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Rakonov is stalling here. Garza is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Rakonov seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Garza has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Rakonov is trying to control Garza's posture but Garza avoids it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Garza working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Rakonov is trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Garza wants to control but Rakonov is keeping him busy.
Garza throws a strike aimed at the side of Rakonov 's head but Rakonov avoids it well.
Rakonov regains half guard there - taking advantage of Garza's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Rakonov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Garza is looking to take a break and control but Rakonov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rakonov shoots for a double leg takedown but Garza sprawls well. He's pushed Rakonov 's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Milton Garza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bert Rakonov .
Garza tries a head kick but it misses.
Garza is looking to clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Garza looks like he's trying to stand up.
Garza trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rakonov controlling the action here.
Garza is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rakonov 's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rakonov 's back!
Bert Rakonov has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rakonov is keeping busy.
Garza is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Rakonov looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Garza looking for the choke but no joy.
Rakonov trying to control the action but Garza just sinks the hooks in.
Rakonov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rakonov tries to escape the position.
Garza wants to control but Rakonov is keeping busy.

Garza is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Milton Garza.
Well Garza has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
