Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cole Burch! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Katsu Taru! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taru scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Taru stands up and beckons Burch to his feet. Taru clinches with his opponent.
Burch tries to circle away but Taru has him pinned against the cage. Taru jumps into guard, dragging Burch to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Burch advances position into side control! Taru is looking to regain half guard here but Burch keeps moving and retains side control. Taru is trying to work for a sweep but Burch has mounted him! Taru is trying to escape the mount.
Burch stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Taru throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
It looked like Burch wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Taru moves into the clinch successfully.
Taru keeps control of Burch as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Burch blocks an elbow strike. Taru turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Taru manages to end up in side control. Taru working away. Burch trying to remain calm as Taru controls from the top position. Burch manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Burch tries to stand but can't do so whilst Taru controls his leg. Burch wants to lay and pray for a moment but Taru keeps working.

Taru looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Burch is looking to take a break and control but Taru is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Burch gets caught napping as Taru dives in and scores a takedown. Burch manages to retain guard. Burch is trying to control the position but Taru postures up. Taru got a little sloppy there for a moment and Burch has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Taru has managed to get both his arms back between Burch's legs - danger averted. Taru tries to stand but Burch is controlling from the bottom. Taru looking to control the position here, rather than advance. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Burch wants to break the clinch but can't.
Burch is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Burch pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Taru forces Burch back against the cage and clinches. Burch changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Taru fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Taru gets a double leg takedown into Burch's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Burch looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Taru must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Taru is fighting to break Burch's control of his arms but Burch is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Taru seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Burch not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Burch is looking to clinch. Burch tries to keep at a distance but Taru has taken the fight into the clinch. Taru ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Taru no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Burch trying to control but Taru is working from the bottom. Taru has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Burch has passed into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Taru trying to remain calm as Burch controls from the top position. You can see the frustration on Taru's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Taru tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad. Taru tries to hold on but Burch pushes him away. Taru is looking to get to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Burch is standing up, even though he is in mount. Taru moves into the clinch. Taru turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Taru manages to end up in side control. Taru has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Burch sneaks back into half guard. Burch trying to control here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Burch moves into full guard.

Katsu Taru showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Burch is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Taru is aware though and is defending well. Taru not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Burch working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Taru. The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Taru closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Burch pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Taru rushes Burch and presses him up against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Burch tries to circle away but Taru has him pinned against the cage. Taru has picked Burch up - he's going for a ride! Taru dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Taru trying to control the action but Burch is working from the bottom. Burch wants to control but Taru is keeping busy.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Taru decides to stand and escape the position. Taru closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Taru lands in his opponent's guard. Burch has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Taru doesn't defend quickly enough and Burch has managed to lock this one up! Can Taru escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Burch on a fantastic submission victory.
