PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Marcos Sanchez (ranked 5040 p4p, 240 weight class) and Happy Camper (ranked 4285 p4p, 208 weight class). Happy Camper told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shirou Masuda and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Camper on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Sanchez swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Camper rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Sanchez counters with a nice body kick.
Sanchez connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Camper's hands.
Camper has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Camper there as he acknowledges the shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez throws an overhand right that lands on Camper's shoulder, as Camper tries to avoid the shot.
A little jabbing left from Camper on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Sanchez feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Camper tests Sanchez 's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Sanchez definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Camper thuds his right hand into Sanchez 's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Camper displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sanchez throws out the jab.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Sanchez walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Camper checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Camper looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sanchez dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Camper. That did some damage!

Camper throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sanchez .
Sanchez was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
A nice leg kick lands there from Sanchez .
Sanchez throws a hook to the side of Camper's head but Camper sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A little jabbing left from Camper on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Marcos Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sanchez misses with an uppercut. Camper saw that one coming.

and Sanchez counters with an inside leg kick.

Sanchez throws a right hand that misses
and Camper cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Sanchez .
Camper moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sanchez will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Sanchez jabs Camper right on the nose. Camper blinks but takes it well.
Camper might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Camper throws out a counter right but Sanchez avoids it with no problem.
Sanchez throws a lazy right hand but Camper sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Sanchez loads up on a big right hand but Camper slips the punch.
Camper tries to counter with a clinch but Sanchez shakes him off and moves away.

and Sanchez makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Camper looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Camper connects with a nice looking jab.
Sanchez throws a shot from downtown. Camper moves away and avoids it.
Sanchez throws a leg kick which misses Camper's front leg but catches the back leg as Camper tries to avoid it.

Camper throws a body shot but no joy.

Camper appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Sanchez misses with a looping right.
Camper fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Sanchez looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Sanchez lands with an overhand left.
Sanchez closes the distance but Camper moves to the side
and Camper counters with a crisp one two that drops Sanchez ! Camper thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Sanchez to his feet! Sanchez is in big trouble!

Oh Sanchez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Sanchez swings widly with a right hand
and Camper scores with a counter punch that sends Sanchez to the canvas! Camper smells blood - he's punishing Sanchez with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Sanchez has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Happy Camper!
