The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wallace swings for the body but Gracie moves out of range.
Gracie has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Gracie closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wallace circles away. Wallace gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Wallace can't keep his opponent in guard - Gracie advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Gracie has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Wallace defend it? Gracie steps over the head and cranks it - Wallace is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Gracie!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ricardo Gracie! Ricardo Gracie retains his lightweight title! After winning the bout, Ricardo Gracie thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
