Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alvin Goff! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Erik Sykes! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sykes takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Sykes looks to clinch so Goff counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Sykes scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Erik Sykes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sykes tries to clinch but Goff moves out of range. Goff swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Sykes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Goff decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sykes's guard. Sykes uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sykes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Goff counters with a lovely shot to the body. Sykes misses with a takedown and Goff counters with a stiff right hand. Alvin Goff has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erik Sykes. Sykes looks winded!
That's one minute gone in the round. Goff drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Goff is in close to Sykes's body, working some short punches and elbows. Goff with a flurry of punches that miss. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Goff got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sykes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Goff has managed to get both his arms back between Sykes's legs - danger averted. Sykes controls Goff momentarily but Goff frees himself. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Goff lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Sykes looking for a guillotine here but Goff defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Goff throwing strikes from guard but Sykes blocks nicely. Sykes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Sykes is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Sykes trying to control the position.
Sykes looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Sykes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Sykes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Goff can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sykes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Sykes is thwarting Goff's attempts to control the position. Sykes not landing any meaningful shots this time. Goff trying to hold on to Sykes's head to control him but Sykes postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Sykes sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Goff defending well though. Sykes is taking a breather. Goff says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Goff is trying to stand back up but Sykes is controlling him
Sykes not landing any meaningful shots this time. Goff is looking to escape. Goff has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Sykes is on him like a limpet, forcing Goff back against the cage. Goff has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sykes uses from the top position. Goff trying to control the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Alvin Goff will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Sykes with a lazy takedown attempt and Goff counters with a left to the body. Sykes rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Goff connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Sykes fails with a takedown attempt. Sykes with a poor takedown letting Goff counter with a right hand. Alvin Goff has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erik Sykes. Goff gets a clinch. Sykes is breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Goff has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Sykes clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Sykes is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alvin Goff is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Sykes shoots and misses and Goff counters with a left and a right that stings Sykes. Sykes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Goff decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Sykes regains full guard. Nicely done. Sykes wants to sweep here but Goff controlling him for the moment. Sykes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Goff gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Sykes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Goff doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Goff manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sykes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Sykes working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Goff. Sykes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Goff defends well. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Goff postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Sykes looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Goff has picked Sykes up and slammed him! Sykes can't keep hold of the triangle and Goff manages to pass to side control!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Goff decides to stand back up. Goff steps back and let's Sykes get back to his feet. Goff scores with a jab to the body. Sykes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Goff was covering up waiting for the punch and Sykes finishes the takedown easily into guard. Goff striking off his back but it's not causing Sykes any problems. Sykes is looking to stand up but Goff won't let him. Goff is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Goff wants to stand and escape but Sykes is having none of it. Goff seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sykes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Goff not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Sykes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sykes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Goff throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Sykes works over Goff's head and body with a nice combination. Goff scores to the head and body with a nice combination! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Alvin Goff dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Sykes takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Sykes darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Sykes prevents Goff from standing back up.
Sykes has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Goff defend it? Sykes steps over the head and cranks it - Goff is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Sykes!
