PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Preston Carrillo (ranked 6452 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kentucky Fried (ranked 23493 p4p, 677 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Preston Carrillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kentucky Fried!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Chris Edwards and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Fried, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Fried throws a head kick but Carrillo moves out of range.
Fried scoring well with a low kick there.
Fried misses with a hook. Carrillo ducked under it nicely.
As Fried looks to move away, Carrillo throws a big counter combo but Fried just gets out of the way.
Fried moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Kentucky Fried seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carrillo slips a jab and a cross from Fried.
Carrillo seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Fried lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Fried throws a leg kick but Carrillo sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Carrillo checks a low kick from Fried.
Carrillo tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Fried manages to circle out of the way.
Carrillo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fried throws the kick towards the body but Carrillo avoids it.
Carrillo half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Fried is looking to land body kicks.
Carrillo tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Fried manages to circle out of the way.
Fried throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

A frustrated look appears on Fried's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Fried's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Fried is looking to slow Carrillo down with leg kicks.
Carrillo moves out of range of the body kick.
Carrillo tries to counter by clinching up but Fried breaks away and moves out of range.
Carrillo shoots in and drives through. Fried sprawls well.
Carrillo avoids a punch combination nicely.
Fried misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Fried moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Carrillo blocks a low kick nicely.
As Fried backs away, Carrillo returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Carrillo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Fried is trying to defend but Carrillo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Fried wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carrillo is looking for a kimura but Fried is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carrillo to get the leverage.

Carrillo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Carrillo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Carrillo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fried is just riding it out for now. Carrillo eventually gives up the hold.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carrillo is looking for a kimura but Fried is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carrillo to get the leverage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Carrillo stands up out of the half guard.

Fried takes the fight into the clinch.

Fried tightens his grip and picks Carrillo up, before dumping him to the ground. Carrillo manages to land in guard.

Fried stands and steps away. Carrillo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Fried looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Fried just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromCarrillo.
Fried lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Fried fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Carrillo.
Fried tries to land a front kick but Carrillo steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

and Carrillo counters by clinching up.

Fried gets control of Carrillo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Fried will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Carrillo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Fried is looking to stand up but Carrillo isn't so interested in that idea.
Fried looks winded!

Carrillo stands and steps away. Fried gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Fried lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Carrillo gets tackled into the cage by Fried. Fried maintains the clinch.

Carrillo has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Fried taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Fried creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Carrillo takes an elbow to the forehead.


It looks like Preston Carrillo has been cut.
Fried stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fried turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Fried throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Fried tries to land a front kick but Carrillo steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Fried throws a head kick that misses.
Carrillo seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Carrillo's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Fried connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Carrillo scrambles back to his feet.
Fried with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Carrillo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Fried's guard.

Fried wriggles free and stands up.
Fried lands a lovely overhand right.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Carrillo throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Fried tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Carrillo is in Fried's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Carrillo throws an elbow that misses. Fried uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Carrillo's guard. Nice move by Fried!

Fried stands and steps away. Carrillo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Fried throws a right and a left that Carrillo avoids nicely.
Carrillo is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Fried.
Fried has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fried getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Fried goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Fried is breathing heavily.
Fried looking to land some kicks to the body here.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Carrillo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Fried defends it nicely.
Fried pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Carrillo drops his hands momentarily and Fried takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Carrillo is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Fried fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Carrillo checks it well.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Fried.

Kentucky Fried is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Fried scores with a one two! Carrillo had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Carrillo shoots in for a double leg but Fried sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Fried gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fried decides to stand back up. Fried steps back and let's Carrillo get back to his feet.

Kentucky Fried showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Carrillo avoids a punch combination nicely.
As Fried tries to get set, Carrillo tries to push him back and clinch up but Fried manages to avoid the attempt.
Carrillo shoots for a takedown but Fried saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Fried rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Carrillo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Fried has closed the distance and engaged Carrillo in a clinch.
Fried stalls.
Fried misses with an elbow over the top.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Carrillo can't find room to land a body shot as Fried controls the action.

Fried avoids the elbow strike from Carrillo, against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Fried - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Fried has picked Carrillo up - he's going for a ride! Fried dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Carrillo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Fried wants to stand but Carrillo is controlling his posture from full guard.
Fried takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Carrillo tries to strike from the bottom.

Carrillo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fried defends well.
Fried really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carrillo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fried gets to his feet - Carrillo follows without any prompting.

Fried closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Carrillo has Fried pushed against the cage.
Fried lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Fried.

Fried breaks the clinch.

Fried gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Fried is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Fried gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Fried has hold of one of Carrillo's legs. Carrillo is fighting the takedown attempt but Fried gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Fried is looking to stand up but Carrillo won't let him.
Carrillo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fried manages to get himself to full guard.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Fried creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Carrillo pushes off an throws an elbow but Fried leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Fried has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Carrillo uses from the top position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Carrillo decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Fried, up you get!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Preston Carrillo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kentucky Fried is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Carrillo lands a body punch in the clinch.

Kentucky Fried comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Fried has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Kentucky Fried started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
