The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
An inside leg kick from Sanderson misses.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lanley is defended easily by Sanderson.
Sanderson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lanley.
Sanderson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lanley paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Lanley appears to be looking for a big counter.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sanderson stands up and beckons Lanley to his feet.

Sanderson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lanley is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Lanley gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sanderson to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sanderson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Sanderson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Sanderson is taking a breather. Lanley says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Sanderson.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Sanderson is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Lanley has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Sanderson slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Yet more stalling tactics from Sanderson.
Sanderson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Sanderson has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Lanley has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
