Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Obadele Haynes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Minhyuk Brown! The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Haynes swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Haynes throws a nice inside leg kick. Haynes throws a head kick that misses so Brown counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Haynes is trying to control the position but Brown postures up. Haynes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Brown controls the pace. It looks like Brown might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Haynes keeping full guard, as Brown tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Haynes wants to control the position but Brown says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Brown is working for a kimura but Haynes is defending it quite comfortably.
Brown content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Brown is looking to advance position but Haynes won't allow it. Haynes trying to control from the bottom.
Brown passes the guard and advances to mount! Brown is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Haynes has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Haynes! Brown has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Haynes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Haynes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Haynes tries to stand but Brown is controlling from the bottom. Haynes is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Brown has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Haynes is looking to defend but Brown has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Haynes! Brown pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Haynes taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Minhyuk Brown! Our winner, Minhyuk Brown, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. The defeated Obadele Haynes had this to say: 'Congratulations to my opponent. He was the better fighter tonight.'.
