PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jun Sal (ranked 8522 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alica Lich (ranked 5578 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jun Sal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alica Lich!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Dirk Anderson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sal closes the distance and clinches.
Sal on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Lich throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Lich drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sal tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sal blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Sal is trying to pull guard but Lich has him pressed against the cage.

Sal has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lich uses from the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lich tries to free his leg and advance position but Sal is retaining full guard.
Lich slips nicely into half guard.

Lich tries to pull guard but Sal holds him up against the cage and eventually Lich drops back down to his feet.
I was talking to Sal's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Lich escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lich tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sal paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Lich shoots in and drives through. Sal sprawls well.
Jun Sal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alica Lich.
Sal tries to clinch up.
Sal throws a head kick but Lich moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lich swats away the attempt to clinch by Sal.

Sal tries to sprawl but Lich drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Lich wants to work for an arm triangle but Sal is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Sal gets back to full guard.
Lich trying to control but Sal is working from the bottom.
Lich won't allow Sal to sweep him here.

Lich slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Lich lands a head shot.
Sal tries to clinch up but Lich circles away and keeps his distance.
Lich shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sal defends it nicely.
Lich fails in his attempt to clinch.

Sal moves into range and clinches up with Lich.

Lich pulls Sal into guard.

Sal got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lich has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sal has managed to get both his arms back between Lich's legs - danger averted.

Lich is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sal is aware though and is defending well.
Lich looks winded!

Sal gets to his feet - Lich follows without any prompting.
Sal wants to clinch
and Lich counters with a nice uppercut.

Lich closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Lich drops an elbow to the side of Sal's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sal wants to control but Lich is keeping busy.
Sal is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alica Lich dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sal bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Lich fails with a takedown attempt.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Lich lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Lich tries to pull guard but Sal won't allow it.

Sal pulls guard successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lich pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sal is keeping the position for now.
Lich wants to control from the top but Sal keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sal is working an open guard so Lich takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Sal fails with an attempt to clinch.
Alica Lich is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sal lands a slapping body shot.
Lich shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sal sprawls well. Sal wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lich gets slowly back to his feet.
Jun Sal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alica Lich.

Jun Sal is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lich shoots for a takedown but Sal saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Sal fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lich, pushing him back against the cage.

Sal scores with a head kick. Lich tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

The fight stays on the outside here - Sal looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Sal lands with a slapping head kick.
Lich blocks a head kick by Sal.

Sal forces Lich back against the cage and clinches.

Sal manages to pull guard.
Sal is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Lich slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Lich connects with a couple of short punches.
Sal is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Lich tries to kick Sal off in order to stand up. Sal Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Sal decides to stand back up. Sal steps back and let's Lich get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lich takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Sal makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Lich scores with a leg kick.
Lich digs a good hook to Sal's body.
Sal tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lich swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sal pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jun Sal is winning the standup battle so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Sal is fighting off a takedown attempt but Lich is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Sal to the mat. Sal regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Sal wants to get back to his feet but Lich passes into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lich is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sal tries to get to full guard but Lich has control of the leg.
Lich is looking to take a break and control but Sal is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Sal pushes Lich off and gets back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sal moves into the clinch successfully.

Lich decides to pull guard.
Sal stopping the sweep attempt from Lich.

Sal stands up from Lich's guard - Sal perhaps looking for a knockout.
A head kick by Sal misses

and Lich counters with a single leg into guard. Sal didn't expect that.
Lich scoring with punches to the head and body.
Lich not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Sal keeping moving, preventing Lich from controlling successfully.
Lich must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lich slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Lich is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sal will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Lich gets to mount! Sal was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Lich working for a submission but Sal is keeping him at bay.
Sal wants to control but Lich is having none of it.

I would just about give that final round to Alica Lich.
I think Lich has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
