Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nate Zappa (ranked 4377 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dmitry Karakhanyan (ranked 5243 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nate Zappa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dmitry Karakhanyan! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zappa instigates a clinch. Zappa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Zappa with a poor takedown and Karakhanyan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Zappa fails with an attempt to clinch.

Zappa gets a takedown into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Karakhanyan wants to improve his position but Zappa is controlling well.
Zappa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Karakhanyan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Karakhanyan wants to get back to full guard. Karakhanyan is refusing to be controlled, as Zappa sits in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Karakhanyan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Zappa missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Karakhanyan controlling the position for now. Zappa not landing any meaningful shots this time. Zappa looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Karakhanyan is defending against the submission attempts here by Zappa.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Zappa moves into full mount! Karakhanyan won't be happy about that! Karakhanyan really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Karakhanyan wants to hold on but Zappa pushes him away. Zappa looking to control but Karakhanyan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Karakhanyan wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Zappa.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Zappa raining down hammerfists from mount. Zappa looking to control but Karakhanyan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Karakhanyan can't escape the position.
We've been hearing that Zappa has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Zappa punishing his opponent with strikes. Karakhanyan keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Karakhanyan wants to hold on but Zappa pushes him away. Karakhanyan is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Zappa is staying active. Zappa throws a sloppy strike and Karakhanyan uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Karakhanyan has ended up in Zappa's guard.
Zappa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Karakhanyan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Karakhanyan wants to control from the top but Zappa keeps moving. Zappa looking to control but Karakhanyan passes into half guard.
Zappa works his way to full guard. Good work. Zappa keeping moving, preventing Karakhanyan from controlling successfully. Karakhanyan wants to pass the guard but Zappa is keeping the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Karakhanyan postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nate Zappa dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Zappa closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Karakhanyan tries to pull guard but Zappa forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Zappa gets a trip takedown into half guard. Zappa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Karakhanyan is looking to improve his position.
Zappa is working for a submission of some sort.
Zappa is looking for a kimura here.

Wait, no, Karakhanyan rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Zappa's guard! Nice work there by Karakhanyan! Zappa has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Karakhanyan should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Zappa has tightened it up now! Karakhanyan should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
