Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Khalid Al Saadoun (ranked 7011 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santiago Mondragon (ranked 3470 p4p, 0 weight class). Santiago Mondragon acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Khalid Al Saadoun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Santiago Mondragon!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Sandra Marshall and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Al Saadoun closes the distance and clinches.

Mondragon pulls Al Saadoun into guard.
Mondragon has a closed guard, preventing Al Saadoun from standing up.
Mondragon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Al Saadoun might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mondragon wants to sweep here but Al Saadoun controlling him for the moment.
Al Saadoun is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Al Saadoun has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mondragon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Al Saadoun knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mondragon on the ground.
Al Saadoun has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Al Saadoun has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Mondragon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Al Saadoun.

A frustrated look appears on Mondragon's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Al Saadoun wants to sweep but no luck.
Mondragon is looking to stand up but Al Saadoun won't let him.

Al Saadoun looking for subs off his back but Mondragon has passed one foot through into half guard.
Al Saadoun is refusing to be controlled, as Mondragon sits in half guard.
Mondragon not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Mondragon tries to pass the half guard into mount. Al Saadoun knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Al Saadoun wants to control but Mondragon passes into side.

Mondragon is trying to get an arm triangle but Al Saadoun is defending well.
Al Saadoun struggling a bit here.
Mondragon is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Al Saadoun tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santiago Mondragon dominated that round.
That's time! Al Saadoun's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Al Saadoun's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mondragon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Al Saadoun paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Al Saadoun seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Mondragon shoots for a double leg takedown but Al Saadoun sprawls well. He's pushed Mondragon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Al Saadoun tries a head kick but it misses.

Al Saadoun looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Al Saadoun stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Al Saadoun wants it to stay on the feet.
Khalid Al Saadoun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Santiago Mondragon.

Al Saadoun drives through and clinches with Mondragon against the cage.

Al Saadoun on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Al Saadoun tries to get out of the position.

Al Saadoun has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mondragon is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Al Saadoun.

and Al Saadoun counters with a shoot takedown. Mondragon fights it but they end up in guard.

Mondragon is trying to control the position but Al Saadoun postures up.
Al Saadoun would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Mondragon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Al Saadoun's guard.

Al Saadoun pulls Mondragon in close to prevent any damage.
Mondragon won't allow Al Saadoun to sweep him here.

Al Saadoun is working hard here to advance position.
Santiago Mondragon has got the better of the ground game so far.
Al Saadoun is looking to stand back up but Mondragon counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Al Saadoun.
Al Saadoun is staying active underneath Mondragon, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Mondragon might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Al Saadoun haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Al Saadoun is trying is best to control the position here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Al Saadoun darts in and clinches Mondragon up against the cage.
Al Saadoun can't break the clinch.
Al Saadoun works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Al Saadoun turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Al Saadoun manages to end up in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Al Saadoun shoots in and bounces Mondragon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Mondragon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mondragon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Al Saadoun circles away.
Al Saadoun attempts a counter takedown but Mondragon avoids it well and moves away.
Al Saadoun leaves Mondragon with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mondragon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Al Saadoun wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mondragon keeps working.

Mondragon is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Al Saadoun's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mondragon is looking to escape.

No luck for Mondragon with that takedown attempt.
Khalid Al Saadoun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Santiago Mondragon.

Al Saadoun wants to get up but he can't break Mondragon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
