Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bruno Villarreal! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ash Man! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Josh West and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Man lands with a hook. Villarreal tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Man throws a one two combo.
Man misses with a series of wild punches.
Man lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Man. Man decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Villarreal manages to get to full guard.
Villarreal is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Villarreal wants to sweep but no luck. Villarreal throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Villarreal is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Villarreal lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Man looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Villarreal keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Man's head. Villarreal has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Villarreal decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Villarreal misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Villarreal tries to keep at a distance but Man has taken the fight into the clinch. Man wants to break free but Villarreal has control.
Man decides to pull guard. Man is working an open guard so Villarreal takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Man looks winded! Villarreal tries to close the distance and clinch up but Man swats him away and circles back towards the center. Man throws a combination that misses and Villarreal counters with a nice double leg into side control. Man won't be happy with that.

and Villarreal counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Man! Villarreal stands up and we're back to a striking position. Villarreal tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Man was well out of range. Poor timing from Villarreal. Villarreal swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Villarreal is working for a kimura but Man is defending it quite comfortably.
Villarreal lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Man has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Villarreal is working away from the top position though. Villarreal seems to be looking for submissions.
Man is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Man wants to get back to his feet.
Villarreal decides to stand up. Villarreal rushes Man and presses him up against the cage. Villarreal lands a takedown into guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Bruno Villarreal will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Man throws a big shot that misses. Man wants to clinch but Villarreal slips to the side and Villarreal counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Villarreal. Villarreal decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Man, up you get! Ash Man seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. and Villarreal counters with a series of strikes. Man will be more careful next time no doubt. Man throws a nice looking combination but Villarreal bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Villarreal misses with a few strikes there.

Villarreal forces Man back against the cage and clinches. Man is breathing heavily. Villarreal looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Villarreal is trying to trip Man. He has hold of a leg but Man is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Villarreal persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Bruno Villarreal overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. This has been an exciting period of action! Villarreal gets to his feet. Man looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Man fails to land with a series of punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Villarreal feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Villarreal connects with a couple of short punches. Villarreal stands and steps away. Man gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Man swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

Villarreal shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Man eats them both and turns towards Villarreal to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Villarreal looks to land a combination but Man avoids it well. Man uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Villarreal.

Villarreal gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Man to score an easy takedown into full guard. Villarreal has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Man is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. Man misses with the head strike.

Ash Man seems to be getting the better of the standup. Villarreal throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Man was covering up waiting for the punch and Villarreal finishes the takedown easily into guard. Villarreal gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Villarreal connects with a nice short shot to Man's temple. Man on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Villarreal is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Man is trying to maintain the position but Villarreal is very close to passing his half guard. Nice strikes from Villarreal there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Villarreal seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Man tries to roll over but Villarreal keeps him under control. Villarreal is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! Is there anything that Man can do to turn this around? The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Villarreal lands a couple of digs. Man wants to control but Villarreal postures up. Villarreal looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Man is trying to improve his position. Villarreal tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Villarreal has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Villarreal stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Villarreal looks to land a left hand but Man moved out of range nicely. Man closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Man wants to lay and pray for a moment but Villarreal keeps working. Man sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Villarreal defending well though. Villarreal is controlling Man's position as best he can from this difficult position. Man is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Villarreal defends it well. Ash Man has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Bruno Villarreal is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Man thows a huge punch but Villarreal dodges it nicely.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bruno Villarreal. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Villarreal, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
