PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Efrain Knight (ranked 7368 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kum Pook (ranked 5884 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Efrain Knight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kum Pook!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knight misses with a takedown attempt

and Pook counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pook.

Knight manages to break the clinch.
Knight goes for a double leg but Pook avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pook continues to drive forward.

Pook is nestled in close to Knight, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Pook is keen to just control but Knight is a slippery customer.

Knight manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Pook tries to free his leg and advance position but Knight is retaining full guard.
Knight is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pook is controlling him.
Knight will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Pook is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Knight is just riding it out for now. Pook eventually gives up the hold.

Knight changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pook tries to avoid it but Knight manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pook to the ground. Pook escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Knight shoots in but no luck this time.
Pook wants to counter with a clinch but Knight pushes him away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pook is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Knight has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Knight!

Pook is looking to stand up but Knight isn't so interested in that idea.

Pook drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Knight dives on top into guard.

Kum Pook showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Knight is fighting off a takedown attempt but Pook is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Knight to the mat. Knight regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Knight closes the distance and clinches up with Pook, looking for a takedown. Knight pushes Pook against the cage but Pook circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Knight gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Knight is wriggling around but Pook manages to pass to half guard.

Well Pook has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
