The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nguyen tries to clinch up.
Nguyen checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Owings swats away the attempt to clinch by Nguyen .
Nguyen fails to land the takedown.
Owings keeps the fight on the outside.
Owings stuffs the takedown.
Nguyen avoids a kick to the body.
Nguyen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Owings has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nguyen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Nguyen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Owings tries to avoid it but Nguyen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Owings to the ground. Owings escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Nguyen tries to close the distance and clinch but Owings swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The fighters circle momentarily. Nguyen darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Owings goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Nguyen is trying to break the clinch but Owings has him pressed against the cage.
Owings scores with a shot to the side of Nguyen 's head.

Owings's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Owings goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Nguyen lands a lovely overhand right.
Nguyen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Owings swivels and escapes.
Owings unleashes a big counter combination but Nguyen bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Michael Owings seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Nguyen tries to keep at a distance but Owings has taken the fight into the clinch.
Owings escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Owings forces Nguyen back against the cage and clinches.

Owings has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Nguyen is trying to escape back to his feet but Owings uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Owings takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well Owings has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
