Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Adnan Vulicevic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Francisco Marquez! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vulicevic misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Vulicevic wants to clinch up but Marquez keeps it at a distance. Vulicevic tries to clinch but Marquez moves away and Vulicevic takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Marquez misses with the combination.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vulicevic is defended easily by Marquez. Marquez darts in and clinches Vulicevic up against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marquez pulls guard successfully.
Marquez wants to sweep but no luck. Vulicevic is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vulicevic can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Marquez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Vulicevic tries to kick Marquez off but Marquez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Vulicevic wants to get back to full guard but Marquez has mounted him! Vulicevic sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Marquez is looking to take a break and control but Vulicevic is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Marquez is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marquez missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Marquez sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Vulicevic defending well though. Marquez tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Vulicevic. Vulicevic is trying to get back to full guard. Marquez wants to stand up but Vulicevic is controlling the position.
Marquez content to control rather than advance.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Marquez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Vulicevic defends it nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Francisco Marquez dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Vulicevic wants to clinch up but Marquez keeps it at a distance. Vulicevic fails with an attempt to clinch.
No luck for Vulicevic with that takedown attempt. Marquez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Vulicevic. Vulicevic closes this distance looking for a takedown but Marquez circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Adnan Vulicevic. That's going to take a lot out of him. Vulicevic fails with the takedown and Marquez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marquez pushes Vulicevic back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Marquez drops down looking for an ankle pick but Vulicevic pulls his leg out and moves away.
Vulicevic turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vulicevic throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Adnan Vulicevic is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Vulicevic looks to land a combination but Marquez avoids it well. A little jabbing left from Marquez on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Marquez moves into the clinch. Vulicevic is trying to pull guard but Marquez turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Vulicevic jumps guard but Marquez turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Marquez decides to pull guard. Marquez has his hands on Vulicevic's head, controlling the position. Marquez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vulicevic gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Marquez wants to stand up but Vulicevic is controlling him. Marquez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Marquez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Marquez will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Marquez looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Vulicevic postures up.
Marquez is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Vulicevic frees his head nicely. Oh but Marquez has switched to an armbar! Vulicevic is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
