Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rafael Shang! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Junior Dos Santos! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Winston Alpacca and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shang has closed the distance and engaged Dos Santos in a clinch.
Shang wants a takedown but no success here.
Dos Santos is pressed up against the cage. Shang has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Dos Santos down to the mat. Dos Santos avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. A nice combination there by Dos Santos.
Dos Santos throws a one two combo.
Shang takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Shang shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dos Santos as he avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rafael Shang. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dos Santos dips to his left and cracks Shang with an uppercut! Shang shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Shang is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Shang drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shang jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Dos Santos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shang. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Shang pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dos Santos is keeping the position for now. Shang won't allow Dos Santos to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shang is pushing down on Dos Santos's leg trying to pass to half guard. Dos Santos is fighting to maintain full guard but Shang has managed to sneak the leg through. Shang not landing any meaningful shots this time. Shang is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dos Santos defends it well. Shang is looking for a kimura but Dos Santos is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shang to get the leverage. Shang seems to be working for a kimura but Dos Santos defends the submission attempt. Dos Santos blocking the ground and pound attempt from Shang.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dos Santos keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Shang is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dos Santos defends it well. Shang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Shang perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Shang is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dos Santos defends it well. Shang is trying for a kimura here. Dos Santos looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Shang wins by kimura!
