Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Michael Owings (ranked 5412 p4p, 550 weight class) and Salvador Hererra (ranked 7683 p4p, 647 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Owings! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Salvador Hererra! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Albert Achterberg and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed right hand from Hererra misses the target. Hererra fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Owings to the ground. Hererra is now in Owings's guard. Hererra wants to control from the top but Owings keeps moving. Owings wriggles free and stands up. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hererra. Hererra misses with a takedown attempt and Owings counters with a two punch combo. Hererra shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hererra was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hererra looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Owings is avoiding damage well.
Owings is not content to let Hererra control the position. Hererra lands a nice forearm strike.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hererra goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Owings has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hererra but great work by Owings. Owings trying to control the action but Hererra is working from the bottom. Hererra is looking for a sweep. Hererra sneaks back into half guard. Owings trying to mount his opponent but Hererra defends it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hererra looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Owings content to control rather than advance. Owings seems to be working for a kimura but Hererra defends the submission attempt. Owings is looking to advance position but Hererra won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hererra trying to control but Owings postures up.
Hererra looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Hererra won't allow Owings to pass to mount. Hererra is pressing down on Owings's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Hererra has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Owings is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hererra. Hererra regains half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hererra slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Hererra not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hererra working for submissions but it's allowed Owings to get to half guard.
Hererra looking for submissions off his back. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hererra makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hererra. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael Owings dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Hererra rushes Owings and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Hererra slowing the pace effectively. Owings tries a knee to the head but Hererra blocks it.

Owings lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Hererra jumps guard but Owings turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Owings breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Hererra has taken the fight to the clinch.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Owings obliges. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Owings being controlled against the cage. Owings blocks an elbow strike. Hererra tries for a takedown. No joy.
Michael Owings has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Salvador Hererra.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hererra is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Owings to keep the fight standing. Owings jumps guard.
Owings wants to sweep but no luck. Owings is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. We've been informed that Hererra has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Owings wants to stand but Hererra is controlling the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hererra throws a strike but Owings rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Hererra is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Hererra escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Owings gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Owings stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hererra swivels though and keeps the full guard. Hererra is looking for a triangle here but Owings uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Owings wants to control but Hererra is keeping him busy. Hererra is looking to regain half guard here but Owings keeps moving and retains side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hererra keeps trying to improve his position. Owings will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Owings wants to control but Hererra is keeping him busy. Hererra is looking for a sweep. Owings is staying tight to Hererra's torso, preventing him from escaping. Hererra tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Owings easily slips into full mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Hererra tries to lock up and control but Owings gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Owings misses with a head shot. Owings looking to control but Hererra is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Hererra wants to hold on but Owings pushes him away. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Hererra wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Owings.
Hererra tries to get back to half guard but can't. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael Owings dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Owings fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Hererra gets in close and instigates a clinch. Owings pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Hererra moves into the clinch. Owings holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Owings breaks from the clinch.
Owings shoots in looking for a takedown. Hererra tries to sprawl out of it but Owings keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hererra manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Michael Owings seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Owings fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hererra avoids it really well and circles away. Hererra scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hererra landing strikes. Hererra landing a few strikes. Owings is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hererra's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Hererra is trying to work for a kimura but Owings is defending well.
Owings avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hererra. Owings is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hererra can do to turn this around? Hererra is taking a breather. Owings says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Hererra slips a nice elbow through Owings's hands, connecting with Owings's forehead. Salvador Hererra has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hererra lands a nice short elbow. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hererra connects with a nice short shot to Owings's temple. Owings trying to control from the bottom.
Hererra scoring with strikes to the body and head. Hererra not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Owings is trying to control but can't.
Owings slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hererra's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Michael Owings overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hererra loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hererra looking to pass the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hererra stays in close to Owings's body and controls the position. Hererra trying to control the position from guard on top but Owings is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Hererra content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Owings knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hererra on the ground. Owings has Hererra pulled in close to control his posture. Owings keeping moving, preventing Hererra from controlling successfully.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Owings is looking to clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Owings avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Hererra shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. The fight stays on the outside here - Hererra looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hererra closes the distance but Owings moves to the side and Owings counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Michael Owings is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Hererra misses with a takedown and Owings counters with a three punch combo that has Hererra backing up. Hererra nods at Owings to acknowledge the strikes. Hererra throws a body punch but Owings moves out of range. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hererra tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Owings defends well and Hererra ends up having to push Owings into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Michael Owings has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Salvador Hererra. Owings lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Michael Owings is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Hererra thows a left - swing and a miss! Hererra takes a swing at Owings's ribcage but misses.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Salvador Hererra. I think Owings has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
