The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Kowalevitz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Garcia but Garcia pushes him off and we're back to square one. Garcia closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kowalevitz quickly recovers to half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Garcia (2) vs (0) Kowalevitz Kowalevitz moves into full guard.
Kowalevitz wants to sweep here but Garcia controlling him for the moment. Kowalevitz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Garcia's guard. Kowalevitz works a leg free and moves into half guard. Kowalevitz works his way into side control. Garcia is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Kowalevitz yanks on the arm and Garcia is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission!
