Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ron Gates! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aleandro Ruiz! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Aafke Stam and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ruiz throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Ruiz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Ruiz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Gates counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Ruiz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gates is controlling him. Gates gets to his feet. Ruiz looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Gates takes a swing at Ruiz's ribcage but misses. Ruiz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gates as he avoids it easily. Ruiz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. As Ruiz looks to move away, Gates throws a big counter combo but Ruiz just gets out of the way. Gates on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Ruiz. Ruiz obviously looking to wear him down.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruiz throws a head kick that Gates semi-blocks.
Ruiz tries to clinch but Gates is having none of it. Gates is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Ruiz. Ruiz closes the distance and clinches. Ruiz misses with a hook to the ribs.
Gates has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ruiz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruiz lands a hook to the side of the head. Ruiz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Gates avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Ruiz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gates avoids a punch combination nicely.

Ruiz lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Aleandro Ruiz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ruiz tries a head kick but it misses.
Gates seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Ruiz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Ruiz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ruiz comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Ruiz wants to clinch and Gates counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ruiz won't be happy with that. Ruiz tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gates unloading with bombs! Gates is in the full mount, landing strikes. Ruiz tries to hold on but Gates pushes him away. Ruiz tries to control the position but Gates now has his back.
Ruiz looks winded! Ruiz tries to break free.
Gates working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Ruiz is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Gates has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Ruiz taps out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ron Gates!
