Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Matt Roberts! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Invictus Rock! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roberts walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Rock works the jab nicely. Rock misses with a takedown attempt - Roberts sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Roberts takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Roberts closes the distance and clinches. Rock is trying to pull guard but Roberts turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Roberts turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Roberts manages to end up in side control. Roberts has control of an arm but Rock manages to advance to Roberts's back! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rock tries to get the hooks in deep but Roberts pushed the leg off. Roberts looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Rock is trying to stick to Roberts's back but Roberts is turning into Rock. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Rock's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Roberts. Roberts connects with a couple of short punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roberts with a nice head shot there. Rock is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Roberts not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Roberts scoring with punches to the head and body. Roberts connects with a couple of short punches. Roberts lands a couple of decent looking shots. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Roberts stands up over Rock, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Rock looking for a sweep. Not yet Rock, not yet. Roberts connects with a couple of short punches. Rock wants to sweep but no luck. Rock looks winded! Roberts slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Roberts has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Roberts landing some decent shots from guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roberts postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Rock covers up, he's hurt! Roberts keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Roberts and the ref steps in to end the fight! Roberts can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Matt Roberts!
