The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nevez tries a head kick but it misses.
Stewart steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Nevez.

and Nevez counters by moving into the clinch.
Stewart is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Nevez is defending well for now.

Stewart has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Nevez is trying to keep an underhook but Stewart manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Stewart in particular looking to stall.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Nevez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Nevez tries to get out of the position.
Stewart takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Stewart wants to take a breather but Nevez is having none of it.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Stewart decides to stand and escape the position.

Stewart is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Nevez lands a nice looking kick to the body. Stewart takes a step back to recover.

Stewart shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Nevez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Nevez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Stewart controls the pace.
Stewart has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Stewart stands and steps away. Nevez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Nevez has Stewart pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Stewart is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Nevez - that's hurt Stewart badly! Oh, another knee lands and Stewart is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Stewart doesn't seem to be complaining.
