Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Scuba Chris (ranked 3850 p4p, 167 weight class) and Futoshi Matsunaga (ranked 1740 p4p, 80 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Futoshi Matsunaga enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Scuba Chris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Futoshi Matsunaga! The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chris connects with an inside leg kick. Matsunaga tries to clinch there but Chris circles away.
Matsunaga moves in looking to clinch but Chris pushes him off. A big right from Chris misses. Matsunaga tries to clinch up. Matsunaga throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Chris sees it coming and avoids it easily. A little feinted left hand from Chris on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Matsunaga ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Chris moves away. Matsunaga swings widly with a right hand
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Chris has been working on his boxing with his coaches at BigIsland BigGuns Warrior Training in the buildup to the fight. Matsunaga has managed to clinch.
Matsunaga blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Matsunaga fails to pull guard.
Chris lands with a left to the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Matsunaga managing to block the knees to the body from Chris.

Chris's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Chris turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Matsunaga tries to buck Chris off but Chris is having none of it. Matsunaga gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matsunaga looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Chris is looking to take a break and control but Matsunaga is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Chris is looking for a kimura here.
Matsunaga is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Chris pulls his head out easily. Chris controlling the pace. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Matsunaga moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Chris advances to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Matsunaga actively working from the bottom here. Chris works his way into full mount! Chris controlling from the full mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Matsunaga can't escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Matsunaga is trying to get back to full guard. Matsunaga looking for submissions off his back. Matsunaga is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Chris pulls his head out easily. Matsunaga looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Matsunaga is not content to let Chris control the position. Chris moves nicely into side control. Matsunaga tries to bench press Chris off him but Chris keeps the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Matsunaga is still trying to improve position. Chris is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Matsunaga is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Matsunaga is looking for a sweep. Chris just content to control the position. Matsunaga is trying to get back to half guard. Matsunaga is trying to escape the position but Chris is controlling the position. Matsunaga is looking to reverse the position. Chris thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Chris in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Chris controlling from side mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Scuba Chris dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Matsunaga avoids a punch combination nicely.
Matsunaga dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Matsunaga tries to clinch up but Chris circles away and keeps his distance. Matsunaga jabbing away but nothing is landing. Chris walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. A head kick from Matsunaga lands but Chris takes it in his stride. Matsunaga scores with a jab to the head.

Chris throws a leg kick which misses Matsunaga's front leg but catches the back leg as Matsunaga tries to avoid it. Matsunaga slips a jab and a cross from Chris.
Futoshi Matsunaga seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Chris throws a series of strikes that have Matsunaga backpedaling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matsunaga throws a nice looking combination but Chris bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Chris is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Chris throws a head kick that misses and Matsunaga counters by clinching up. Chris tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Matsunaga avoids it. Chris wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Matsunaga has him pressed against the cage. Chris breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Chris tried to score with a low kick but Matsunaga checks it. Matsunaga misses with a head kick.
Chris moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Nice body kick there by Chris. Matsunaga gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Chris has Matsunaga pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Matsunaga manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Chris is trying to break free. A quick uppercut on the inside from Matsunaga. Matsunaga lands with a short punch from the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chris blocks a punch to the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Chris takes a shot to the head. Matsunaga fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Chris tries to land knees in the clinch but Matsunaga avoids the damage to the body. Matsunaga misses with a body punch.
Chris drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scuba Chris. That's going to take a lot out of him. Chris has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Matsunaga avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Chris can't break the clinch.

Matsunaga keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Chris's efforts to push away. Matsunaga blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Matsunaga digs a right hand underneath Chris's ribcage. Chris let out a lung full of air as it connected. Matsunaga works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

That was a close second round but I would say that Scuba Chris will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Matsunaga is looking to clinch but Chris is avoiding it.
Matsunaga throws out a loose jab but Chris uses good head movement to avoid it. Chris fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Matsunaga. Matsunaga scores with a crisp jab that stopped Chris in his tracks. Matsunaga checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Chris lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

It seemed like Matsunaga was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Chris gets tackled into the cage by Matsunaga. Matsunaga maintains the clinch. Matsunaga drags the fight down to the ground.

He's concentrating on that move too much though and Chris pushes past his half guard into mount! Chris connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Scuba Chris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Matsunaga is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Chris wants to control the pace but Matsunaga is squirming around nicely. Matsunaga tries to reverse the position but Chris maintains control. Chris has hold of Matsunaga's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Matsunaga manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Matsunaga sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Matsunaga is trying to get back to full guard. Matsunaga looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Futoshi Matsunaga has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Scuba Chris is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Matsunaga is looking to improve his position.

And that's the end of the fight! Scuba Chris showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chris, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
