Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Edward Daniels! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jakub Merunka! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Dmitry Maklakov and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merunka misses with a takedown attempt - Daniels sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Merunka clinches up against the cage. Merunka is pressed up against the cage. Daniels has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Merunka down to the mat. Merunka avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Merunka tries to clinch up and Daniels counters with a one-two to the body. Daniels changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Merunka tries to avoid it but Daniels manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Merunka to the ground. Merunka escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Merunka closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Merunka changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Daniels fights it off and pushes away nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Merunka darts in and clinches Daniels up against the cage. Daniels tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Daniels jumps guard but Merunka stands there with Daniels around his waist. Daniels gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Daniels trying to control but Merunka is working from the bottom. Merunka had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Daniels defends it easily. Daniels has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Merunka is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Merunka wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

With the fighters up against the cage, Daniels throws an elbow but misses. Merunka breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Daniels is trying to control. Merunka wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Merunka is trying to get back to full guard. Merunka is refusing to be controlled, as Daniels sits in half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Daniels connects with a nice short shot to Merunka's temple. Daniels wants to lay and pray for a moment but Merunka keeps working. Merunka is holding on to half guard well. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Daniels missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Daniels can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Merunka seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Merunka looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Daniels wants to control from the top but Merunka keeps moving. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Merunka holds on and takes a little breather.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jakub Merunka is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Daniels darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Merunka manages to get to full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Jakub Merunka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Merunka has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
