Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricardo Cruz! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pete Vonshredder! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cruz has taken the fight to the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Vonshredder. Cruz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Ricardo Cruz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cruz walks into a left hand. Cruz moves out of range as Vonshredder strikes. Cruz avoids the body shot from Vonshredder.
Cruz lands a front kick. Cruz slips under a jab. Cruz tries a head kick but it misses.
Cruz has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Roosters Coop in the buildup to the fight. Cruz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cruz blocks a jab. Cruz doesn't succeed with the takedown and Vonshredder counters with a nice uppercut. Cruz drives through and clinches with Vonshredder against the ropes.
Vonshredder is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cruz breaks the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vonshredder throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Cruz slips a straight right by Vonshredder. Cruz closes the distance and pushes Vonshredder back into the ropes. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Vonshredder. Cruz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Cruz shoots in but Vonshredder avoids the takedown attempt easily. Cruz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Vonshredder stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricardo Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cruz misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Vonshredder.
Cruz pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Cruz forces Vonshredder back against the ropes and clinches. Vonshredder lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cruz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Cruz fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Cruz drives through and clinches with Vonshredder against the ropes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Vonshredder swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Cruz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cruz throws a head kick that misses and Vonshredder counters with a lovely straight right hand! Vonshredder loads up on a big right hand but Cruz slips the punch. The fight moves into the clinch position. Cruz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Cruz pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vonshredder misses with a looping right. Cruz moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Pete Vonshredder is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Vonshredder is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cruz. Cruz shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Vonshredder eats them both and turns towards Cruz to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vonshredder just misses with a punch to the body.
Cruz jabs Vonshredder right on the nose. Vonshredder blinks but takes it well. Cruz takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Vonshredder feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Cruz sprawling to the canvas! Cruz rolls over backwards and springs off the ropes and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Vonshredder finish him?!
Cruz is rocked! Cruz pushes Vonshredder up against the ropes in a clinch. Oh Cruz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Vonshredder throws a head punch that misses. Cruz seems to have got his legs back now. Vonshredder looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Vonshredder throws a head punch that misses. Cruz breaks the clinch.
Cruz clinches up with Vonshredder and pushes him back against the ropes. A short right from Vonshredder. Vonshredder tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Vonshredder has a couple of punches blocked by Cruz.
Cruz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Vonshredder might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Cruz shoots in for a takedown but Vonshredder shows good takedown defense. Vonshredder swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cruz throws a series of punches but Vonshredder moves out of range. Cruz lets loose with a powerful body kick. Vonshredder will feel that in the morning. Decent striking displayed by Cruz there. Cruz ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. A head kick from Cruz lands but Vonshredder takes it in his stride. Cruz shoots in but no luck this time. Cruz is trying hard to land a takedown here. Vonshredder sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Cruz moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Vonshredder scores with a jab to the jaw. Vonshredder wants to clinch. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Vonshredder gets tackled into the ropes by Cruz. Cruz maintains the clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ricardo Cruz will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Cruz shoots in and drives through. Vonshredder sprawls well. Ricardo Cruz is winning the standup battle so far. Vonshredder misses the shot to the body. Decent striking displayed by Vonshredder there. Cruz displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Vonshredder throws an overhand right that drops Cruz like a sack of potatoes! Vonshredder dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Pete Vonshredder! Pete Vonshredder is the new super heavyweight champion! In his post fight interview, Pete Vonshredder started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
