Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Oakland (ranked 4693 p4p, 496 weight class) and Jack Shields (ranked 24954 p4p, 733 weight class). Jack Shields is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, James Oakland! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Shields! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A jab from Oakland misses. Shields doesn't succeed with the takedown and Oakland counters by moving into the clinch. Oakland lands a body shot. Oakland scores with a shot to the side of Shields's head. Oakland gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Oakland is stalling in the full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shields is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Oakland knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shields on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Oakland stays in close to Shields's body and controls the position. Shields looking for a sweep. Not yet Shields, not yet.

He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shields for as long as he can get away with.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! With the fighters up against the cage, Shields throws an elbow but misses. Shields misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Oakland.

Shields has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Shields tries to throw a body punch but Oakland avoids it by throwing Shields back against the cage. Oakland lands a body shot. A left hand lands to the body for Oakland.
Oakland has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Shields regains guard immediately. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Oakland dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Oakland has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Shields clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Oakland wants to stand but Shields is controlling the position. Oakland is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Shields dives into side control.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Shields wants to stand but Oakland has his arm trapped. Oakland is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Shields asserts his dominance and retains side control. Oakland on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Oakland tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shields wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Oakland bucks up and tries to throw Shields off but instead Shields has got his back! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Oakland is trying to get back to his feet but Shields has full control of the position and if anything, Oakland has just worked his way into a worse spot. Oakland trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Jack Shields has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! James Oakland is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. James Oakland overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Oakland is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to James Oakland. Well Oakland has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
