The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Russell Pearce and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Johnson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Still in half guard, Johnson seems content to control.
Faioanaka looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Johnson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Faioanaka knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Johnson is working for a kimura but Faioanaka is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Faioanaka throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Faioanaka keeps working.

Faioanaka jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Johnson manages to avoid the submission attempt.

The referee asks Faioanaka politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Faioanaka prefers to stall for the moment though.
Faioanaka decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Faioanaka lands a right hook to the body.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Johnson.
Faioanaka drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Johnson defends it well.

Johnson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Faioanaka is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Johnson, into his guard.
Johnson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Faioanaka puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Johnson tries for a takedown but Faioanaka sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Faioanaka was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Johnson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Faioanaka.
Faioanaka has managed to clinch.
Johnson goes for a takedown attempt but Faioanaka pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Faioanaka shoots for a double leg takedown but Johnson sprawls well. He's pushed Faioanaka's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Faioanaka rushes Johnson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Johnson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Faioanaka avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Faioanaka ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Faioanaka no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Faioanaka pushes Johnson off and scrambles back to his feet.
Faioanaka tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Johnson defends well and Faioanaka ends up having to push Johnson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Faioanaka shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johnson sprawls well. Johnson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Faioanaka gets slowly back to his feet.
