Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Rutherford (ranked 2071 p4p, 256 weight class) and Sparring Fighter 1 (ranked 2778 p4p, 323 weight class). Fighter 1 is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Lou Reed - The day John Kennedy Died. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

25 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sparring Fighter 1!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Fighter 1.
Rutherford blocks a head kick by Fighter 1.
It looked like Rutherford was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Fighter 1 throws a sloppy head kick
and Rutherford counters with a three punch combo that has Fighter 1 backing up. Fighter 1 nods at Rutherford to acknowledge the strikes.
Rutherford drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rutherford slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Fighter 1 is looking to reverse the position.

Rutherford has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Fighter 1 is pushing Rutherford's head away, looking to escape. Rutherford manages to hold on to the position though.

Rutherford throws a series of strikes that have Fighter 1 backpedaling.
Rutherford tries a head kick but it misses.

Rutherford creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Fighter 1 tries to land a knee to the head but Rutherford blocks with his arms.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Rutherford escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Fighter 1 lands a high kick!
We've been told by Rutherford's head coaches at Big Bear Fight Factory that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Fighter 1 swings away with a body shot that misses
and Rutherford counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! Fighter 1 has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Thomas Rutherford!

In defeat, Sparring Fighter 1 stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'm still standing here, so you apparently didn't accomplish your goal.'.
