Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jerede Baya! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Patrick Ronson! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Santiago Holmes and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Baya gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Ronson counters with a takedown into side control. Ronson scoring with punches from side control. Ronson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Ronson is working Baya over with some ground and pound from side control. Ronson tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Baya struggling a bit here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ronson is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Baya manages to work his way to half guard, despite Ronson's best efforts. Ronson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Still in half guard, Ronson seems content to control. Ronson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Baya. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ronson is trying to control. Baya wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Baya punching from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Baya moves into full guard.
Ronson scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Ronson preventing the sweep. Ronson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Baya wants to clinch but Ronson slips to the side and Ronson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Baya tries to roll over but Ronson keeps him under control. Nice strikes from Ronson there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ronson is thwarting Baya's attempts to control the position. Ronson is looking for a kimura but Baya is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ronson to get the leverage. The fighters are battling for position here. Baya manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Ronson engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ronson throws a big elbow that misses. Baya keeping moving, preventing Ronson from controlling successfully. Ronson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Ronson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Baya works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Ronson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Baya swivels though and keeps the full guard. Baya working a defensive guard but Ronson passes into half guard.
Ronson is figuring out what he wants to do next. Baya trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Ronson manages to pass to mount!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Baya can't escape the position.

Patrick Ronson dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Ronson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Ronson tries to break the clinch but Baya is controlling the position. Baya is looking to break free of the clinch but Ronson has double underhooks. Ronson working hard to break the clinch. Baya wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Baya prevents a body shot from Ronson. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ronson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Baya gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Baya tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Ronson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ronson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ronson wants it to stay on the feet. A countering left hand to the body from Ronson misses. Baya moves in looking to clinch but Ronson pushes him off.

Baya is fighting off a takedown attempt but Ronson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Baya to the mat. Baya regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Baya is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Ronson is refusing to be controlled, as Baya sits in half guard. Ronson has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Baya is thwarting Ronson's attempts to control the position. Baya throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Ronson to regain full guard.

Baya is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Baya trying to control the position from guard on top but Ronson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Baya advances position into side control!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ronson is trying to control Baya's posture but Baya avoids it. Ronson is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Baya is looking to take a break and control but Ronson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Baya tries to stand but Ronson controls the position and pulls Baya into his guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Baya looking to pass the guard. Baya got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ronson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Baya has managed to get both his arms back between Ronson's legs - danger averted. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ronson can do anything to dispel that myth. Baya trying to control the position from guard on top but Ronson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Ronson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Patrick Ronson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Baya shoots in looking for a takedown but Ronson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Baya's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Baya swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ronson throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Ronson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Baya sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ronson somewhat. Baya shoots in but no luck this time. Baya fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jerede Baya. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ronson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Baya sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Ronson instigates a clinch. Ronson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Baya gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Baya has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ronson uses from the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Baya wants to get back to his feet but Ronson is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Ronson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Baya trying to keep a closed guard but Ronson is proving a slippery customer.
Ronson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Baya is looking for a sweep. Ronson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Baya to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Baya gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Ronson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Baya lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Baya won't allow Ronson to sweep him here. Ronson tries to strike from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ronson wants to stand and escape but Baya is having none of it. Baya is fighting to break Ronson's control of his arms but Ronson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Ronson looking for a guillotine here but Baya defends easily.
Baya trying to control but Ronson is working from the bottom. Ronson looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Baya has picked Ronson up and slammed him! Ronson can't keep hold of the triangle and Baya manages to pass to side control!
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Baya tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Ronson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Baya tries to pass to full mount but Ronson defends it. Ronson punching from the bottom.
Ronson trying to get back to full guard but Baya takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Baya can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ronson is looking to escape. Jerede Baya has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Patrick Ronson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Ronson is working to get back to half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jerede Baya. Well Ronson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
