The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Church. Romero shrugs it off though. Romero dodges the punch combination from Church.
Romero changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Romero throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Romero closes this distance looking for a takedown but Church circles away. Romero throws out a loose jab but Church uses good head movement to avoid it. Carlos Church seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Romero takes a swing at Church's ribcage but misses. Church attempts a counter takedown but Romero avoids it well and moves away. Church has closed the distance and engaged Romero in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Church putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Romero in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Romero is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Church breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Romero controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Romero throws a big elbow that misses. Romero trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Romero with a nice head shot there. Romero looking to sit in guard and control but Church gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Romero working a defensive guard here.
Church is looking to work some ground and pound but Romero has wrist control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Church doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Romero is tightening it up a little... Church has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Church reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Church taps out! Nice BJJ there by Romero!
