Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Irwin Rodriguez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gonshu Ramil! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ramil darts in and clinches Rodriguez up against the cage. Ramil has Rodriguez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ramil pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Rodriguez tumbling to the mat - Ramil dives into Rodriguez's guard. Ramil chips away with some ground and pound. Ramil thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Ramil trying to control the position from guard on top but Rodriguez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rodriguez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ramil defends it easily. Ramil really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rodriguez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Rodriguez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ramil can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ramil content to stall in guard here. Rodriguez has his foot on Ramil's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ramil works his way back into a safe position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ramil drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ramil jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Ramil content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Rodriguez has locked up a guillotine! Rodriguez's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Ramil is holding on here and Rodriguez must be using up a lot of energy. Ramil has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Rodriguez gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Irwin Rodriguez!
