PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rafaello Oliveiro (ranked 5153 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Bronzoulis (ranked 5961 p4p, 0 weight class). Mark Bronzoulis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rafaello Oliveiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mark Bronzoulis!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Santiago Holmes and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bronzoulis blocks a low kick nicely.

Bronzoulis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Bronzoulis gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Oliveiro tries to kick Bronzoulis off in order to stand up. Bronzoulis Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bronzoulis in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Oliveiro is looking to reverse the position.
Bronzoulis in side control lands a decent elbow.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Oliveiro is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bronzoulis's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Bronzoulis lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Bronzoulis has Oliveiro pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Oliveiro manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bronzoulis can do anything to dispel that myth.

Bronzoulis is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Oliveiro is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Oliveiro wants to control the pace but Bronzoulis is squirming around nicely.

Oliveiro with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Bronzoulis tries to lock up and control but Oliveiro gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Rafaello Oliveiro overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Oliveiro wants to control the pace but Bronzoulis is squirming around nicely.

Oliveiro throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Bronzoulis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Oliveiro was covering up waiting for the punch and Bronzoulis finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Bronzoulis wants to control from the top but Oliveiro keeps moving.
Oliveiro is trying to keep Bronzoulis in close.
Bronzoulis cracks Oliveiro with a solid left hand.

Oliveiro is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bronzoulis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Oliveiro is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Bronzoulis is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Oliveiro pulls his head out easily.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Oliveiro wants to slow Bronzoulis down by chopping away at his legs.
Bronzoulis tries to counter with a clinch but Oliveiro shakes him off and moves away.
A combination from Oliveiro does no damage.
Oliveiro lands a body shot.
Oliveiro changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bronzoulis tries to avoid it but Oliveiro manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bronzoulis to the ground. Bronzoulis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bronzoulis swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bronzoulis misses with a lunging right hand
and Oliveiro cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Bronzoulis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Bronzoulis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
You can see the frustration on Oliveiro's face as Bronzoulis controls the position.

Bronzoulis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Oliveiro, who protects the arm well.

Bronzoulis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Oliveiro. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bronzoulis swings around for an armbar but Oliveiro sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bronzoulis's guard.

Bronzoulis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Oliveiro throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bronzoulis has a closed guard, preventing Oliveiro from standing up.
Bronzoulis is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
