Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Maxxy Baby (ranked 218 p4p, 26 weight class) and Sergei Babakov (ranked 531 p4p, 65 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

21 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maxxy Baby! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sergei Babakov! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Babakov just misses with a punch to the body.
A jab lands there for Babakov. Baby misses with a straight right. Babakov uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Baby. Babakov tries to clinch but Baby is having none of it. Sergei Babakov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice cross by Babakov. Baby drops his hands momentarily and Babakov takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Babakov has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Baby is landing a low percentage of strikes. Babakov uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Baby. Babakov scores with a hook. Baby is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Babakov has managed to clinch.
I was talking to Baby's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Babakov working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Babakov misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Babakov lands with a short head shot on the inside. Baby tries to break the clinch but Babakov is controlling the position. Babakov keeps control of Baby as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Baby blocks an uppercut.

That's one minute gone in the round. Baby is trying to force a seperation but Babakov has the dominant position. Babakov misses with a punch on the inside.
Babakov makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Baby is trying to break the clinch but Babakov is controlling him. A nice left hand lands by Babakov.
Baby has had enough of the clinch but Babakov keeps him there for the moment. Babakov lands with a right to the head. Babakov lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Baby backwards. A quick uppercut on the inside from Babakov. Baby's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. A cross from Babakov lands. Baby slips a straight right by Babakov. Babakov clinches. Baby pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Baby throws a body punch but Babakov moves out of range. Babakov rushes Baby and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Baby's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Babakov ducked under it nicely. A looping hook to the body misses from Babakov. Baby does a little dance to reset his feet. Babakov tries to clinch up but Baby circles away and keeps his distance. Babakov slips a jab from Baby. Baby misses with a straight right. Babakov closes the distance and clinches. Babakov doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Baby jabs at Babakov's body. Babakov throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Babakov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Babakov lands a jab. A big left from Baby misses. Babakov wants to counter the offense by Baby and move into the clinch position. Baby misses the jab. A shot to the liver by Baby. Beautiful body shot. Babakov looks to land a left hand but Baby moved out of range nicely. Baby lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Babakov circles away quickly and effectively. Baby takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Baby throws a hook but Babakov blocks it. Babakov throws a poor cross that misses
and Baby counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Babakov takes the fight into the clinch. Baby breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Baby scores with a body shot.
A telegraphed right hand from Baby misses the target. Baby avoids a punch combination nicely.
Baby lands with a good body shot. Babakov tries to clinch up but Baby circles away and keeps his distance. Babakov defending well as Baby loads up on a big left hand. Baby throws a jab but it's blocked by Babakov. Babakov is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Baby connects with a body shot that sends Babakov's belly button to the back. Babakov uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Baby. Babakov is looking to clinch. Babakov takes a jab right on the kisser.
Babakov wants to clinch up but Baby keeps it at a distance. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Babakov clinches. Baby manages to break the clinch.

Babakov is rocked! Babakov is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Baby. Babakov is still on wobbly legs! Can Baby finish him? Babakov lands a nice shot to the body.
Babakov seems to have recovered his senses. Baby throws a jab when Babakov was well out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sergei Babakov dominated that round. The cut man is working on Sergei Babakov's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Babakov ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Babakov uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Baby. Babakov gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Baby gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!
