PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Magomed Khaibulaev (ranked 3260 p4p, 361 weight class) and Mister Happy (ranked 2384 p4p, 276 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Magomed Khaibulaev!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mister Happy!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khaibulaev moves in looking to clinch but Happy pushes him off.
Happy fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Khaibulaev has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Happy lunges at Khaibulaev with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Khaibulaev's hand.
Khaibulaev tries to close the distance and clinch up but Happy swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Khaibulaev shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Happy wants to get back to his feet.
Khaibulaev is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Khaibulaev's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Happy is trying to stand up here but Khaibulaev is controlling him well.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A chopping leg kick lands by Happy.
Mister Happy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Happy throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Happy's coach down at Q Club was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Happy's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Happy stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Happy wants it to stay on the feet.
Happy looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Khaibulaev fails with a takedown attempt.
Khaibulaev tries to close the distance and clinch but Happy swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Khaibulaev sets himself, and Happy steps forward looking for the clinch! Khaibulaev avoids it this time.
Khaibulaev walks into a stiff left hand from Happy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Happy scores with a leg kick.
Khaibulaev takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Nice takedown defense from Happy. No joy for Khaibulaev on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Magomed Khaibulaev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Good standup being displayed there by Happy as he connects with a hook.


It looks like Magomed Khaibulaev has been cut.
Happy scores with a leg kick.
That kick from Happy tenderised Khaibulaev's leg. Khaibulaev is trying to keep his angry face on.
Khaibulaev takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Happy connects with a leg kick. Khaibulaev looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Happy dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Khaibulaev. That did some damage!
Khaibulaev fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Happy lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A short right from Happy.
Happy misses with a hook from the clinch.
Still in the clinch, Happy scores with a nice short uppercut.
Happy lands a hook that snaps the head of Khaibulaev backwards.
A nice left hand lands by Happy.


Khaibulaev is rocked!
Khaibulaev is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Happy creates some distance for himself and unleashes a massive uppercut that sends Khaibulaev's eyes rolling into the back of his head! Khaibulaev drops to his knees and Happy pours it on with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mister Happy!
Mister Happy is the new lightweight champion!
Mister Happy spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
