The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendoza closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Burkman has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Mendoza is on him like a limpet, forcing Burkman back against the cage.

Mendoza changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Burkman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Mendoza shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Burkman's guard.

Burkman manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Burkman loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Mendoza scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Burkman land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Burkman stands and salutes the crowd.
