PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Max Collis (ranked 5806 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Granite (ranked 5076 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Max Collis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Leo Granite!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Francis DeMontford and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Granite throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Granite drives through with a takedown into guard.

Collis is looking for a triangle but Granite pushes his legs off easily.
Granite sitting in guard here, content to control.
Collis wants to sweep but no luck.

Collis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Granite can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Collis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Granite doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Granite manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Granite gets to his feet - Collis follows without any prompting.
Granite misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Leo Granite seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Collis throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Granite closes the distance and clinches up with Collis, looking for a takedown. Granite pushes Collis against the cage but Collis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Granite scores with a nice hook to the head.

Granite gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Collis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Collis is keen to just control but Granite is a slippery customer.

Granite is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Collis pulls his head out easily.

Collis seems to be working for a kimura but Granite defends the submission attempt.

Granite kicks off Collis and gets to his feet.
The crowd cheers as Granite lands an impressive looking overhand right. Collis doesn't seem phased though.
Granite misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Collis.

Granite fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Collis drops down looking for a counter takedown but Granite sprawls and moves away.

Granite darts in and clinches Collis up against the cage.

Collis has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Granite after a bit of a struggle.

Granite gets control of Collis's arms and successfully pulls guard. Granite will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Collis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Collis fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Granite tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Collis defends well and Granite ends up having to push Collis into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Collis.
Granite misses with a few strikes there.
Granite throws a series of punches but Collis avoids them all with ease.

Granite drives through with a takedown into Collis's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Granite is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Granite manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Collis on his heels. He'll look to pass Collis's guard now, I'm sure.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Collis enables Granite to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Collis manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Granite tries to pass to full mount but Collis defends it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Granite perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Granite.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Granite moves into range and clinches up with Collis.

Granite tightens his grip and picks Collis up, before dumping him to the ground. Collis manages to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Granite content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Granite connects with a nice short shot to Collis's temple.
Granite is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Granite lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Collis is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Granite is taking a breather. Collis says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Collis wants to get back to his feet.
Granite scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Granite seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Max Collis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Leo Granite is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Well Granite has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
